Male Nasal Revision Surgery

Male Nasal Revision Surgery

With men who have had rhinoplasty, the most common request is to make their nose look natural again. Dr. Romano is experienced at repairing an “over-operated” nose to create a more natural appearance. Oftentimes men complain that too much of their nose has been removed, and it is usually possible to make a significant improvement. Sometimes after rhinoplasty surgery is performed, a nose can look too small. Again, Dr. Romano has success in fixing noses that are small, short, long, narrow, wide and, occasionally, twisted.

Dr. Romano Explains

There is quite a large population of men who have had nasal surgery before and desire a revision to obtain a more natural or pleasing result.

There are so many such men and this procedure is so super-specialized that I address this issue as a separate section of my practice altogether. I have seen many such men, all with legitimate complaints about their nasal features that may range from subtle to quite severe. It is important and very reasonable to be concerned and seek an opinion in this area. I am very interested in helping you and treating this problem.

Men notice a variety of features, and some may be subtle or severe in your or my opinion, and we may agree on them or not. So this is a condition for which I always use computer imaging to make sure that we both see the same thing and that we see the same thing to the same degree. Men commonly complain of a persisting “big ball” on the end of the nose, a hanging or drooping tip, an inverted V deformity, a Polly-beak deformity, a persisting hump on the top, a crooked nose, dents or bumps, difficulty breathing, watery discharge, or sinus problems. The anatomy of the nose is usually completely disrupted from its normal state by the previous surgery. The framework of bone and cartilage is different, the overlying skin has more scar tissue underneath it and may be thick or thin, and there may be problems with the mucous membrane lining the nose and its function. The surgical plan includes a very thorough exam, computer images, detailed drawings of your anatomy, review of your old records, and a formulation of an exact surgery sequence. In the nose all of these different anatomic features must be analyzed and addressed prior to your surgery. I will coordinate the features of your anatomy with your expectations, formulate a plan with you, and guide you through this process.

The planning, preparation, technique, and synchronization of your and my artistic visions are exquisitely important in rhinoplasty revision surgery, and I take this process very seriously with several visits, old photographs, old records, and computer images so that you can be provided with the best of all possible results. Surgery involves a light general anesthetic and is performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable and can take two to many hours. There is moderate swelling and very rare bruising after surgery. There are few small stitches, and you can return to work in as little as five to seven days and to some physical exercise in the second week. The surgical result relies on the fact that your skin will mold down around the artistically reshaped and remolded bone and cartilage framework.
