Lip Enhancement

Lip Enhancement

Lips are one of the most sensuous structures of the face. Luscious and full when we are young, lips lose volume and shape as we age. The goal of an aesthetic lip enhancement option or rejuvenation is naturally soft, full, and well proportioned lips.

In lip enhancement surgery there are multitudes of different yet very specific techniques that must be applied exactly to your precise anatomic feature(s). Dr. Romano’s skill comes in evaluating these features and matching them to the best intervention. These interventions may be in one or more of these categories: skin care, injectables, peels, resurfacing, or surgery.

The spectrum of alternatives Dr. Romano provides for enhancing your lips include:

  • Wrinkle Lines: These are treated by any combination of Botox, peels, resurfacing, skincare, or injectables as indicated.
  • Injectables: These can be permanent, such as Artefill or fat, or temporary, such as collagen and Perlane, Restylane, or Juvéderm or other hyaluronic-acid-based gels. The use is to make the lip larger and more lifted and to lift the corners.
  • Lip Lift Surgery: In this procedure an incision is made under the nose, at the upper lip corners, or both to lift the middle and/or corners of the lips, respectively.
  • Lip Reduction: This is performed when the lips are too large.

Dr. Romano Explains

The lips are the focus of our identity, the central focus to the face, and the seat of our personality and expression. So I profoundly respect any patient who has even the smallest issue with such an important facial feature. I listen carefully and help you.

There are many features in the lips that must appear and function in a well-coordinated fashion in a small and very visible area. Patients may notice small lips, not enough pink showing, loss of the ledge or definition at the edges, an elongated thin upper lip, lip unevenness, not enough or too much teeth showing when smiling, drooping corners and a sad look, wrinkle lines, smoker’s lines, or too large upper and/or lower lips. The lip anatomy consists of a bulky main muscle, eight muscles that connect at each corner, almost no fat, and then the overlying skin. The underlying teeth, dental work, and upper jaw give foundation and shape to the lips, and this is part of my evaluation. The lips relate to your laugh lines, nasal base, and jowls to varying degrees, so there are many different anatomic features that must be analyzed and addressed prior to your surgery. I will coordinate the features of your anatomy with your expectations, formulate a plan with you, and guide you through this process.
There is a great deal of art that goes into lip rejuvenation. I have expertise in lip rejuvenation, and I have performed hundreds of these operations with very natural results that do not make you look like a different person, but rather, youthful and alluring and refreshed.
