Breast Asymmetry

Virtually every woman has some degree of breast asymmetry. Breast asymmetry is often due to factors beyond the breast alone, such as rib cage shape and your chest muscle anatomy. But just as often, it is purely in your breast anatomy—one breast is simply very different from the other. Breast asymmetry may involve difference in size and volume; shape and amount of skin; amount and distribution of the breast gland; and differences in the size, shape, and level of one nipple and areola compared to the other. All of these aspects of asymmetry can be corrected by surgery, and the unevenness improved. The procedure may involve lifting and tightening, adding an implant, subtracting tissue from the larger breast, or leveling the nipple and areolae from side to side.

Dr. Romano’s procedure is safe and predictable. He is able to create results that are consistently very beautiful, with quick healing, minimal scarring, and a very natural appearance, especially in an area of such great importance to women.

Dr. Romano Explains

Virtually every woman has some degree of breast asymmetry. Some patients who have profound asymmetry are fine, and others who have very little difference are severely disturbed.

I understand from my patients why they are tired of wearing inserts and hiding the asymmetry, and I also understand how this can really frustrate a lot of women. I would like to help you with this issue.

Breast asymmetry is often due to factors beyond the breast alone, such as rib cage shape and your chest muscle anatomy. But just as often, it is purely in your breast anatomy, and one breast is simply very different from the other.

The procedure may involve lifting and tightening, adding an implant, subtracting tissue from the larger breast, or evening the nipple and areolae from side to side. This all depends on your anatomy and expectations. Surgery involves a relatively short procedure under a light general anesthetic and is performed where I do surgery, which is in a hospital setting. The surgery is safe and predictable. Virtually immediately after surgery you see your result and it just gets better with time. The recovery is rapid; you can return to work in several days and to some physical exercise within the first week. All of the stitches are dissolvable. Recovery and return to most activity happens within days.

Surgery to correct asymmetry of the breast is very common in my practice. I have special expertise in this procedure and spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and body will safely and predictably allow me to do. In addition I build a system into every surgery that, initially, allows you to recover much more quickly and, secondly, preserves your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, vitamins, supplements, special garments, breast exercises, skin products, physical training, and knowing what to avoid. Together all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, with quick healing, minimal scarring, and a very natural appearance, especially in an area of such great importance to women. Even though patients occasionally tell me they think this condition is trivial, it is clearly a high priority, or you would not be reading this. I am delighted to surgically provide you with such a profound body-image change, one that has so consistently pleased my patients and changed their lives.
