A nipple that is inverted is also sometimes called “invaginated.” The condition describes nipples that project into the breast mound rather than out of it. Some women have nipples that are only partially inverted. These generally look and function normally and just do not project quite as far out as is typical. Other women have nipples that are inverted, creating an almost featureless appearance on the areola. These women sometimes look as if they do not have nipples at all, since there is no forward or inward projection to be seen. Still other women have nipples that actively project into the breast mound, creating a dimple or hollow.
Repair and correction of inverted nipples is a very common problem with a not-so-obvious solution. Many doctors, including plastic surgeons, are not comfortable with this operation or the correction, so they discourage patients, telling them, “You are fine. Forget about it.” Dr. Romano does not fall into this category; rather, he understands how you feel, and he can cure this issue for you with a very predictable, safe, and natural-looking surgery.
Patients with nipple and areolar deformities often come to me with complaints and concerns they have lived with for years, have hated, and have had no idea that this issue could be corrected and cured with a comfortable and straightforward operation under local anesthesia.

Nipple inversion occurs as a result of shortening of the milk ducts as they course from the glands to the nipple. This can occur from birth or as a result of trauma or infection. The shortened ducts pull the nipple inwards, creating a slit. Inversion occurs in different degrees—from never coming out at all to everting for a long time with slight pressure. This is not an inherited condition. Over the years there have been dozens of operations to address inverted nipples. These operations have traditionally involved large unsightly incisions, using bulky appliances or devices to stabilize or suction the nipple up, and lots of postoperative pain and care. The operation I perform does away with all of these. Correction of nipple inversion in my hands is a very predictable operation done under a local anesthesia, with very small, imperceptible incisions on the nipple only. No hardware or devices are needed. The procedure is about one hour long, and provides a permanent and beautiful result and allows you to return to work the same day. You can begin exercise in two days, and the tiny stitches are dissolvable.
Surgery of the nipple is very common in my practice. I have performed hundreds of these procedures over the years, and not a single patient has experienced any problems. I have special expertise in this procedure and spend a great deal of time discussing your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and interpreting for you what your anatomy and body will safely and predictably allow me to do. In addition I build a system into every surgery that, initially, allows you to recover much more quickly and, secondly, preserves your surgical results. This system includes a special diet, vitamins, supplements, skin products, physical training, and knowing what to avoid. Together all of this allows me to create results that are consistently very beautiful, quick to heal, and exceptionally natural. I use minimal incisions, especially in an area of such great importance to men and women. Even though patients occasionally tell me they think this condition is trivial, it is clearly a high priority, or you would not be reading this. I am delighted to provide you such a profound body-image change, one that has so consistently pleased my patients and changed their lives.
