Summer is just around the corner and you know what that means, less clothing and more flesh, but not everyone is prepared to bare their bikini bodies this year. Even with countless hours in the gym there are some aspects of our bodies that, unfortunately, we can’t correct naturally. In time for the season, we are here to discuss the sensitive, but popular topic of Male Nipple Reduction Surgery.
Although nipple reduction surgery is common among men and women, it has become more popular among males, since they can’t wear bras under clothing. This surgery corrects and minimizes overly large nipples and areolas.
Dr. James Romano has performed hundreds of these surgeries and has greatly improved the quality of life for his patients. In order to ease potential clients into this surgery he answers some of the most frequently answered questions regarding this minimally invasive procedure.
Is it right for me?
Although this procedure is based on personal preference, candidates that feel uncomfortable about their nipple’s appearance should consider the following:
This procedure is a good option for you if:
- You want to improve your appearance
- You have realistic expectations
- You are bothered by the feeling that your nipples are too large, asymmetric, unusual in shape
- You are insecure about the appearance of your nipples underneath t-shirts
Is this a common procedure?
Yes, in fact it is a very predictable operation done under local anesthesia and requires about an hour of surgery time. Be sure that your plastic surgeon is experienced in this type of surgery as it isn’t performed by all plastic surgeons due to lack of guarantee because although this surgery can reduce the size of the nipple it may not always work as each individual’s results may vary depending a different factors. During our consultation we will discuss what anesthesia would be best for your specific procedure. Typically anesthetics can be administered as intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Depending on the surgical procedure it may consist of an incision a small cut to correct the size of the nippe or an excision if reduction of the areola is needed or the nipple needs to be repositioned to follow the natural contour of your body.
Will there be scarring?
Most incision lines are concealed within the natural contours of the body and although scars aren’t typical because the incisions are very small and imperceptible, there may be some may be visible. I only remove the excess tissue to reshape and reduce the nipple in both diameter and projection.
What is the recovery process?
Most patients can expect a quick recovery and are able to return to work and normal activities the same day and nipple sensation and stimulation should remain completely normal. But everyone is different and dependent on the individual’s health, normal habit, and anatomy.
Dr Romano has performed thousands of these particular surgeries. In fact, he has become highly specialized in this precise procedure and has created a customized surgery to make this procedure specific and predictable.
