Surgery for nipple inversion correction and nipple reduction are safe and very predictable procedures done under local anesthesia. There are many different operations for these procedures and Dr. Romano performs ONLY the two procedures that are predictable and produce consistent natural and beautiful results with the incisions hidden on the nipple itself. The operation takes about an hour. You can return to work or activities right after surgery. You can shower the next day. Both procedures produce very natural and normal results and can often be customized to the size and shape and symmetry that you desire. The resulting incisions are only on the nipple itself and are virtually invisible. The sensation is virtually always normal. There is the normal reaction to stimulation and hot and cold although the extent of this may be reduced due to some internal scar tissue.
The cosmetic result and natural look will last forever and always look normal. You will have normal sensation and reaction to hot and cold and stimulation.
You must be fully aware, however, that the technique in NIPPLE INVERSION SURGERY allows for beautiful and natural results mean that some or all of the breast ducts leading from the milk producing breast gland to the nipple need to be divided or spread apart or unkinked as the case may be. Any of these may interfere with the ability of the breast milk to pass into the nipple. Please be aware of this anatomy and issues.
The tradeoff for the above beautiful and natural results is to be fully aware that you will not be able to breastfeed in the future. Women with inverted nipples cannot breastfeed anyway. As many as 35% of women cannot breastfeed even with normal nipple anatomy. Both procedures provide beautiful cosmetic results, but this is possible only because the nipple ducts need to be divided. The ability to breast feed after nipple reduction surgery is often intact, and more predictable, but not a guarantee.
